Third Conditional: If Clause Type 3

Türkçede "Eğer şöyle yapsaydım, böyle olurdu/olmazdı" veya "Şunu yapsaydın, böyle olabilirdi" gibi geçmişte gerçekleşmemiş durumları ve bunların olası sonuçlarını anlatırız. İngilizcede bu tür geçmişe yönelik, gerçekleşmemiş durumları ifade etmek için Third Conditional kullanılır.

Third Conditional, geçmişte gerçekleşmiş bir olayın farklı olması durumunda geçmişte farklı bir sonuç ortaya çıkacağını anlatır.

Örneğin:

If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam.
(Eğer daha çok çalışsaydım, sınavı geçerdim.)

Burada hem çalışmak hem de sınavı geçmek geçmişte kalmıştır ve gerçekte daha fazla çalışılmadığı için sınav geçilmemiştir.

Yapı

Third Conditional iki ana bölümden oluşur: If Clause (koşul cümlesi) ve Main Clause (sonuç cümlesi).

Olumlu (Affirmative)

If + Subject + had + V3, Subject + would have + V3

If Clause (Koşul)	Main Clause (Sonuç)
If I had studied harder,	I would have passed the exam.
If she had known about the party,	she would have come.
If they had trained more,	they would have won the game.

Örnekler:

• If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam.
  (Daha çok çalışsaydım, sınavı geçerdim.)

• If she had known about the party, she would have come.
  (Partiyi bilseydi, gelirdi.)

• They would have won the game if they had trained more.
  (Daha fazla antrenman yapsalardı, maçı kazanırlardı.)

Not: If cümlesi ve ana cümle yer değiştirebilir. If cümlesi başta olduğunda virgül kullanılır.

• If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam.
• I would have passed the exam if I had studied harder.

Olumsuz (Negative)

Olumsuz cümlelerde had not (hadn't) ve would not have (wouldn't have) kullanılır.

If + Subject + hadn't + V3, Subject + wouldn't have + V3

If she hadn't stayed up late,	she wouldn't have been tired.
If he hadn't forgotten his keys,	he wouldn't have been locked out.

Örnekler:

• If I hadn't missed the bus, I wouldn't have been late.
  (Otobüsü kaçırmasaydım, geç kalmazdım.)

• She wouldn't have been tired if she hadn't stayed up late.
  (Geç saate kadar uyanık kalmasaydı yorgun olmazdı.)

Third Conditional'da koşul veya sonuç kısmı ayrı ayrı da olumsuz olabilir:

If you hadn't helped me, I couldn't have finished the project.
(Bana yardım etmeseydin, projeyi bitiremezdim.)

Soru (Question)

Soru cümlesinde genellikle would öznenin önüne gelir.

Would + Subject + have + V3 + ... if + Subject + had + V3 + ...?

• Would you have gone to the party if you had known about it?
  (Partiyi bilseydin partiye gider miydin?)

• What would have happened if I had told him the truth?
  (Ona gerçeği söyleseydim ne olurdu?)

• Would she have married him if he hadn't proposed?
  (Evlenme teklif etmeseydi onunla evlenir miydi?)

Kullanım Alanları

1. Geçmişte Gerçekleşmemiş Durumlar

Geçmişte gerçekleşmiş bir olayın farklı olması durumunda ortaya çıkabilecek alternatif sonucu anlatmak için kullanılır.

• If I had taken the earlier train, I would have arrived on time.
  (Daha erken trene binseydim, zamanında varırdım.)

• If we had left earlier, we wouldn't have missed the flight.
  (Daha erken çıksaydık, uçağı kaçırmazdık.)

Burada hem koşul hem de sonuç geçmiştedir.

2. Geçmişteki Pişmanlıklar

Geçmişte farklı bir şey yapmayı dilediğimizde veya geçmişteki bir kararın farklı olması durumunda ne olacağını anlatırken kullanılır.

• If I had listened to my parents, I wouldn't have made that mistake.
  (Ailemi dinleseydim, o hatayı yapmazdım.)

• If she had studied harder, she would have passed the exam.
  (Daha çok çalışsaydı, sınavı geçerdi.)

3. Geçmişteki Alternatif Sonuçlar

Geçmişteki bir koşul farklı gerçekleşseydi, farklı bir sonuç ortaya çıkabileceğini belirtmek için kullanılır.

• If he had taken the job, he would have moved to another city.
  (İşi kabul etseydi, başka bir şehre taşınırdı.)

• They could have won the championship if they had played better.
  (Daha iyi oynasalardı şampiyonluğu kazanabilirlerdi.)

4. could have ve might have Kullanımı

Ana cümlede would have yerine could have veya might have kullanılabilir.

• could have → yapabilirdi / yapma imkânı olurdu
• might have → belki yapardı / yapmış olabilirdi

If I had saved more money, I could have bought a new car.
(Daha fazla para biriktirseydim, yeni bir araba alabilirdim.)

If we had asked her, she might have helped us.
(Ona sorsaydık, belki bize yardım ederdi.)

Yaygın Hatalar (Türkçe Konuşanlara Özel)

❌ If cümlesinde would have kullanmak

Türkçedeki "yapsaydım" ifadesi bazen doğrudan İngilizceye çevrilerek if I would have done şeklinde kurulabilir.

Neden: Third Conditional'da standart yapı if cümlesinde Past Perfect (had + V3), ana cümlede ise would have + V3 şeklindedir.

❌ If cümlesinde Simple Past kullanmak

Second Conditional ile Third Conditional birbirine karıştırılabilir.

Şu anda daha fazla param olsaydı...	Geçmişte daha fazla param olsaydı...

Neden: Third Conditional geçmişte gerçekleşmemiş durumları anlatır. Bu nedenle if cümlesinde Past Perfect (had + V3) kullanılır.

❌ Would have sonrasında V1 kullanmak

Would have sonrasında fiilin 3. hali (V3) kullanılmalıdır.

❌ Had sonrasında V1 veya V2 kullanmak

Had burada Past Perfect'in yardımcı fiilidir ve kendisinden sonra V3 gelir.

Neden: Past Perfect yapısı had + V3 şeklindedir.

❌ Second Conditional ile Third Conditional'ı karıştırmak

En önemli ayrım zaman farkıdır:
