Subjunctive ve Resmi Yapılar

Türkçede bir şeyin "olması gerektiğini", "yapılmasını" veya "dilek, temenni" bildiren pek çok farklı yapı kullanırız. Örneğin "gelmesi önemli", "gitmesini önerdim", "Allah korusun" gibi ifadeler. İngilizcede ise bu tür resmi veya dilek bildiren durumlar için Subjunctive denilen özel bir yapı kullanılır. Subjunctive, özellikle belirli fiillerden sonra veya bazı kalıplarda fiilin yalın halini (base form) kullanmamızı gerektiren bir durumdur.

Yapı

Subjunctive yapısı, genellikle bir "that" cümlesinin içinde yer alır ve fiilin özneden bağımsız olarak her zaman yalın halde (base form) kullanılmasıyla karakterize edilir.

Olumlu (Affirmative)

Fiilin yalın hali (base form) kullanılır. Özne tekil 3. şahıs (he, she, it) olsa bile fiile "-s" takısı gelmez.

• It is important that he be present at the meeting. (Onun toplantıda olması önemli.)
• I suggest that she take the bus. (Onun otobüse binmesini öneririm.)
• The manager requested that everyone submit their reports by Friday. (Müdür, herkesin raporlarını Cuma'ya kadar teslim etmesini rica etti.)

Olumsuz (Negative)

Fiilin yalın hali önüne "not" getirilerek yapılır. Yardımcı fiil (do/does) kullanılmaz.

Örnekler:

• It is crucial that he not be late. (Onun geç kalmaması çok önemli.)
• She insisted that he not tell anyone. (Kimseye söylememesi konusunda ısrar etti.)
• The rules require that students not cheat on exams. (Kurallar, öğrencilerin sınavlarda kopya çekmemesini gerektirir.)

Soru (Question)

Subjunctive yapısı genelde bir soru cümlesinin bağımsız bir parçası olarak kullanılmaz. Daha çok bir ana cümlenin (genellikle bir soru cümlesi olabilir) içindeki bir yan cümlecikte yer alır.

Örnekler:

• Is it crucial that he be informed immediately? (Onun hemen bilgilendirilmesi çok önemli mi?)
• Did they suggest that the price be lowered? (Fiyatın düşürülmesini mi önerdiler?)

Kullanım Alanları

Subjunctive, genellikle resmi dilde, tavsiye, talep, zorunluluk, önem veya dilek bildiren durumlarda kullanılır.

1. Fiillerden Sonra

Aşağıdaki gibi fiillerden sonra gelen "that" cümleciklerinde Subjunctive kullanılır:

• suggest, recommend, advise, propose (önermek, tavsiye etmek)
• demand, insist, require, request, ask, order (talep etmek, ısrar etmek, gerektirmek, istemek, emretmek)
• urge, move (ısrar etmek, teklif etmek)

Örnekler:

• The doctor advised that she rest for a few days. (Doktor birkaç gün dinlenmesini tavsiye etti.)
• He demanded that the money be returned. (Paranın iade edilmesini talep etti.)
• We requested that the meeting be postponed. (Toplantının ertelenmesini talep ettik.)

2. Sıfatlardan Sonra

"It is..." ile başlayan ve önem/gereklilik bildiren sıfatlardan sonra gelen "that" cümleciklerinde kullanılır.

• important, essential, crucial, vital (önemli, esaslı, çok önemli, hayati)
• necessary, imperative (gerekli, zorunlu)
• advisable, desirable (tavsiye edilebilir, arzu edilebilir)

Örnekler:

• It is essential that he understand the risks. (Riskleri anlaması çok önemli.)
• It is imperative that we find a solution quickly. (Hızla bir çözüm bulmamız zorunlu.)
• It is advisable that you arrive early. (Erken varmanız tavsiye edilir.)

3. "If I were you..." ve Dilek Kipleri

"If I were you" kalıbı, varsayımsal bir durumu ifade ederken kullanılan ve Subjunctive'in başka bir formudur. Geçmiş zamanda "were" kullanılması, durumun gerçek dışı olduğunu vurgular.

Örnekler:

• If I were you, I would accept the offer. (Senin yerinde olsam, teklifi kabul ederdim.)
• I wish I were taller. (Keşke daha uzun olsaydım.)

4. Sabit İfadeler (Fixed Expressions)

Bazı kalıplaşmış ifadelerde hala Subjunctive yapısının izleri görülebilir.

• God bless you! (Tanrı seni korusun!)
• Long live the King! (Çok yaşa Kral!)
• Heaven forbid! (Allah korusun!)
• Come what may. (Ne olursa olsun.)

Yaygın Hatalar (Türkçe Konuşanlara Özel)

❌ 1. Fiillere -s takısı eklemek veya geçmiş zaman kullanmak

Türkçede "onun gelmesi önemli" derken fiilin zamanını veya kişisini değiştirmeyiz. İngilizcede de Subjunctive'de bu mantıkla fiil hep yalın kalır, ancak Türk öğrenciler İngilizce'nin genel kuralı olan 3. tekil şahıs -s takısını veya geçmiş zamanı eklemeye meyilli olabilir.

Neden: Subjunctive yapısında fiil her zaman yalın haldedir ve özneden bağımsızdır; zaman veya kişi çekimi almaz. Bu, bir "dilek" veya "gereklilik" kipini ifade eder, normal bir eylemi değil.

❌ 2. Olumsuz cümlelerde "don't/doesn't" kullanmak

Türkçede "yapmamasını öneririm" derken doğrudan olumsuz yaparız. İngilizce Subjunctive'de de fiilin önüne doğrudan "not" gelir, "do not" veya "does not" gibi yardımcı fiiller kullanılmaz.

Neden: Subjunctive'in olumsuz yapısı doğrudan "not + base form" şeklindedir. "Do/does" kullanımı, normal indicative (bildirme) cümlelerinin yapısına aittir, Subjunctive'e değil.

❌ 3. "That" bağlacını atlamak ve fiili mastar olarak kullanmak

Türkçede "gitmesini tavsiye ederim" yapısında "gitmek" bir mastar gibi kullanılabilir. İngilizcede Subjunctive'de "that" bağlacı genellikle isteğe bağlı olarak atlanabilse de, fiili "to go" gibi mastar olarak kullanmak yaygın bir hatadır.

Neden: Subjunctive, bir "that" cümlesinin içinde, fiilin yalın halini gerektiren özel bir yapıdır. Fiili doğrudan mastar (infinitive) olarak kullanmak, farklı bir gramer kuralına uyar ve Subjunctive'in temel yapısını oluşturmaz. Genellikle "suggest + noun/gerund" veya "advise + object + to-infinitive" gibi alternatif yapılar mevcuttur, ancak Subjunctive'in kendisi bu şekilde değildir.
